Recently we had a customer  insist on us using his glass that he bought off ebay (said he paid about $15 for it) with our iPhone screen repair services. He wanted us to save our parts and “go ahead, please use this one.”

This glass was cheap. Poor poor quality. Thicker than the original Apple parts we use here, weighed a different amount, different feel(to the touch), no oleophobic coating, touch response was lagging, etc.

We decided to go ahead with the repair, with his glass, to teach him a lesson (he was one of our good friends). We put on the glass, using the adhesive that he got with his kit. This adhesive only covered the top and the bottom of the frame. It didn’t give a full seal so dust was bound to get in between the glass and the LCD. When we put it all back together, the home button felt like it was sitting recessed in the glass, the edges were sitting above the bezel, and the touch response was way slow. We put it together as well as our highly trained techs could, but with the cheap glass, it had nothing but FAIL written all over it.

To top it off, when you pressed a certain part of the screen, it’d make the LCD go white with lines all over it!

Now you’re probably sitting here saying, wtf, why would you leave your buddy hanging with knock off glass, making the repair kind of shoddy? Well we didn’t.

After showing him exactly why in the DIY world, spending a couple extra bucks on proper iphone parts would save you a pain and agony, we went ahead and re-did the glass with our high quality parts. Once the iphone screen repair was complete, it made a world of difference. It looked, felt, and functioned, as if it had just come from the factory.

Some things to look for in an iPhone 3G/3Gs glass repair:

  • Glass sits level with the home button
  • Glass sits level with the bezel
  • Full frame adhesive should always be used to prevent dust between the glass and LCD
  • Proximity sensors should not be easily visible(with cheap glass, you’ll see 3 purple circles in the top left)
  • No dust/finger prints should be on the underside of the glass
  • iPhone 3Gs glass should have the oleophobic coating to prevent fingerprints.
  • Laser etched Apple markings on the cables coming from the LCD and the digitizer.

Some things to look for in an iPhone 4 Glass repair

  • Glass and LCD should be bonded together
  • Home button should be flush
  • Metal grate in the earpiece should be present
  • Outside frame should be smooth, not looking like someone scraped it w/ a razor blade(yes, we’ve seen that)
  • Flush against the metal frame
  • Laser etched Apple markings on the cables coming from the LCD and the digitizer

Follow these tips, and you’ll be sure to get a nice, quality iphone repair. Should you have any questions, feel free to email us at info@ifixyouri.com or call us at 888-494-4349.

The iPhone 3G screen is made of glass and protection is typically a good start when using the product. It is optical quality glass, which sits under the frame to offer it some protection but if dropped on a hard surface such as concrete, it could easily shatter or crack. Because of the vulnerable screen an iPhone 3G repair is one of our most popular repair services.

When you feel the glass it seems pretty hard. Overall the 3G glass screen is hard but still susceptible to scratching from every day wear and tear. An old myth that existed when the iPhone 3G was released was that the new glass would not scratch anymore, compared to it’s plastic counterpart. While it may not scratch as easily, don’t expect perfection. Think of it this way: the windshield on your car is made from glass that is very strong and durable. If you own the car a few years though, you may notice the windshield wipers causing tiny scratches. If somebody throws a brick at the glass windshield it will likely break. The iPhone 3G is the same way but it does not take a brick, just a fall out of your lap when you are getting out of the car can be enough to shatter the screen.

Invisible Screen protectors and plastic covers can help with both with both scratching and shattering of glass. As many of our in-house tests have proved though, they may not protect everything behind the screen, such as the LCD digitizer display. Th screen may often freeze (whit freeze) which can be a result of LCD damage.

The multi-touch touchscreen for the iPhone 3G was still new and exciting when it was released clear back in July  2008.  The back is made of plastic, which is different than the aluminum back of the original iPhone and the glass back of the iPhone 4.

The biggest different between the iPhone 3G screen and other models (besides the 3Gs) is the fact that the glass is not glued to the LCD display. This is great if the glass breaks, because a DIY repair can be accomplished for about $30. If the LCD goes out too, the replacement LCD parts for a DIY repair can be expensive. The difficulty changes too as a screen repair can be simple (relative to your experience) if you know what you are doing. The problem with the 3G screen being separated from the LCD is that dirt and dust can get in front of the display and behind the glass.

Some people don’t like the 3G glass because it can give off a yellowish tent and be hard to see when not looking at it at the right angle. Some iPhone 3G users have complained that the numbers and letters can seem blurred out with some phones. Others say it’s a grayish dull affect that makes the over experience less enjoyable and productive.

Overall, at the time of the release the iPhone 3G was awesome and the screen, even with some of the complaints, was an advancement over past models. If you are experiencing any of the issues discussed above and an iPhone repair or free diagnostics is needed, do not hesitate to call for help.

If you’re unsure of what iPhone screen repair you’re in need of, don’t feel like you’re the only one. It is easy to lump iPhone 3G  and 3Gs together because as the name suggests, the 3Gs is an upgrade from its predecessor, not deserving of a more unique title.  This helps the overall process of fixing these phones similar in many ways, although before any repair do your research so you know what your are getting into. Basically, don’t read about how to fix a 3G if you own a 3Gs.  One way in which these phones have something in common is screen repair. While the parts are not the same necessarily, the process in which one performs a DIY repair is very similar.

One main nuance is the fact that the the glass screen and LCD digitizer display are not glued together. In the iPhone 3G repair world this is a big difference to the original model and the new iPhone 4 that is stuck together to avoid dust in the display.

As our much overlooked 3G and 3Gs tests showed, even with protective covers the iPhone can be in danger of LCD display issues even when the glass does not shatter or get cracked. Sometimes the iPhone 3G screen is cracked but the LCD behind it is fine. Screen display issues varies in price depending on the exact need, which often times comes down to if the glass and/or LCD is broken.

An iPhone 3Gs repair is much the same story, as broken glass can be an easier type of DIY repair but LCD damage can be much more difficult. Overall, fixing a 3G iPhone will cost a little more than the 3G.

DIY iPhone replacement parts are also becoming increasingly popular. Our services offer a great way for you to find out how to fix something yourself. Sometimes people think they can fix something but after speaking with us are thankful we saved them from disaster. Give us a call and we will find the right iPhone repair solution for you. You’re walking down the sidewalk and you reach in your pocket to pull out your iPhone that is ringing. It slips out of your hand and SMASH! It hits the concrete, hard.

This is an all too common scenario that we see happen every day. Sometimes it’s just the iPhone glass that needs to be repaired, sometimes it’s the glass and LCD, and yet sometimes it’s just the LCD. To some, this question can be answered with no hesitation, yet to others, this sounds like a trick question.

First thing to determine is what type of iPhone Repair you’ll need. iFixYouri specializes in iPhone 3g, iPhone 3Gs, and iPhone 4 Repair.

Determining what iPhone you have

Some characteristics to find before iPhone 3G repair:

  • Black or white back housing
  • 8 GB or 16 GB
  • Letters on the back(bottom half) are gray, flat paint
  • iPhone has no video recording

Some characteristics to find before iPhone 3Gs repair:

  • Black or white back housing
  • 16 GB or 32 GB
  • Letters on the back(bottom half) are chrome, mirror like paint
  • iPhone records video
  • iPhone has compass

Some characteristics to find before iPhone 4 repair:

  • Steel/Metal frame and buttons
  • Front facing camera
  • Back housing is made of glass

Once you’ve decided what model you have, you will need to determine what iPhone screen repair your broken iPhone needs.

Glass only - Cracked front face. May or may not respond to touch. Screen behind the glass still displays the iPhone home screen/features.

Glass and LCD – Cracked front face. Can not see what is displayed on the screen. Screen may be white, gray, or black. The screen may also show cracks or bleeding and distorted picture.

LCD only - Front glass still in tact. Phone seems to respond to touch. Screen display is white, gray, or black. It may also show cracks behind the glass, may be bleeding(looks like cracked gray lines), or show distored pictures.

All 3 of these problems are very common when dropping an iPhone. When this repair is complete, your iPhone will function exactly how it did from the factory. iFixYouri uses only the highest quality parts to ensure proper fit, feel, and function. We are so confident in our parts, that all glass repairs come with a 1 year warranty.

There were the days of hopes and dreams of a shatter proof iPhone glass. During the WWDC Jobs spoke of the glass as being Engineered Glass.

All the breakthrough technology in iPhone 4 is situated between two glossy panels of aluminosilicate glass — the same type of glass used in the windshields of helicopters and high-speed trains. Chemically strengthened to be 20 times stiffer and 30 times harder than plastic, the glass is ultradurable and more scratch resistant than ever. It’s also recyclable.

We are seeing such a high iPhone 4 repair demand for glass replacement already, as well as the back glass replacement. The iPhone is not even a week old and we’re already seeing this as a major, major problem, but now with 2 times as much glass as before.

One customer contact us stating that he had left his iPhone 4 sitting in his car, which got hot, and well, when he returned, he was in need of an iPhone screen repair. The heat had actually cause the screen to crack. Our thoughts on this are that the metal frame got so hot that it heated the glass up to an unstable temperature, and it cracked.

Another customer had the iPhone in his lap and got out of the car, where it fell a mere 2 ft and put a hairline crack right through the front glass.

iFixYouri has already had numerous orders come in for both front and back glass using our mail-in service. We will continue to honor our iPhone 4 Repair service and uphold and maintain the high standard of service that we consider common practice while adjusting to a new product.

With such a high demand already for the iPhone 4 glass repair and a limited number of repairs available due to the current supply of parts on the market, we will be regularly updating our blog with info on iPhone 4 parts and repair service status. Feel free to contact us should you have any questions. Under the iPhone 4 product page, we’ll be listing if any repairs are currently on back order.

About a week ago a few of the techs and I decided to drop test an iPhone 4 to test screen damage resistance (we had a full iPhone, minus the motherboard). This test came under scrutiny since there was no ‘video’ proof and the iPhone parts used were questioned. We did not use any hammers, ice picks, or axes to break it. Just gravity. We did not throw it or spike it.

We told everyone that once we have a full iPhone, functioning, we’d be posting a video of us drop testing. The test was completed on a sunny afternoon in Florida, behind our repair facility. The area where it was dropped was free of pebbles and/or small rocks. It was a flat surface out in our parking lot. The height it was performed at, was about the level where you would be holding the phone out in front of you.

Well, the day has come, we have a complete working iPhone, straight from Apple, in our hands today. We disassembled it, took some pictures, reassembled it, showed that it works and that it is a functioning iPhone in the video. This video is completely unedited. What you are about to see is heart breaking. Our next step will be to perform and iPhone repair to show how we can clean up a broken iPhone 4 screen when suffering glass damage.

****WARNING – THE VIDEO YOU ARE ABOUT TO VIEW CONTAINS SOME GRAPHIC SCENES. IT IS NOT FOR THE FAINT OF HEART*****

All the hype going on right now is about the new iPhone 4, all the great new features, and Apple raising the bar a notch to its’ competition.

We received our FULL, circuit board included, iPhone 4 quite early this morning and rather than playing with all the new features, we tore it down to it’s bare components. How it comes apart and gets put back together is determines the iPhone repair process and that’s what really excites us.

First thing we noticed is how solid it felt. It feels heavier, and definitely more durable (feels is the key word here).

Taking the back cover off reveals a battery, like most other phones on the market today. This battery actually comes out with ease. The iPhone 4 is manufactured in a way that is opposite of the 3G, and 3Gs, but similar to the original 2G iPhone. Let me explain what I mean here….

iPhone 2G/iPhone 4 – In the manufacturing process, the Glass is the first part that is assembled to the chassis/frame, followed by the internals, and last the battery then the back cover.

iPhone 3G/iPhone 3Gs – The back cover is the first part assembled, then battery followed by the internals. The glass is the last part that goes in.

With iPhone 4 Repair for screen damage, this makes the process a bit more difficult, time consuming, and costly as the iPhone needs to be completely torn down to change out the glass.

After removing the battery we moved on to other iPhone 4 parts, we removed the lower speaker, charging port, and gently removed the logic board. With the logic board removed, you have access to the cameras, power button, ear piece speaker, volume controls and all the screws that hold the screen in place. Once all the screws are removed, the glass has a bit of adhessive that holds the screen to the frame snuggly.

The frame is a piece to marvel at. The intricate design and how everything pieces together is quite amazing.

In addition to the manufacturing of the phone gearing back towards the ways of the original iPhone, Apple decided to go ahead and use a mass amount of new screws that we have not seen before. As if the tiny screws that were used before weren’t pain enough, now they threw in some washers that help in holding the glass in place.

The steel body, combined with the sleek glass on front and back, we’d say that Apple hit yet another home run with this one.

Repairs on this new phone should not be left to amateurs. The mass of new screws, connectors, odd shaped circuit board(to maximize real estate), make this a tricky repair. Any and all measures to prevent electrostatic discharge(ESD) should be taken when cracking this open. Our technicians are always grounded when working on phones, and are only permitted to work in ESD safe areas.

Many different types of drops will shatter your dear phone’s glass leaving it in need of an iPhone screen repair.

We’ve seen every type of drop imaginable, from sitting on it, to your iPhone leaping out your hands and out the window of your car at high speeds. It can, and will happen.

We know, because we have been there too! All is okay though because we are here to make the iPhone repair process as painless as possible.

The process to get it fixed is quite simple.

  1. Determine what model iPhone you have
    • iPhone 3G or iPhone 3Gs – On the back side of the phone, you’ll see a stamp on the back that says 8Gb, 16Gb, or 32Gb
      • 8Gb – 3G or 2g
        • 2G – Aluminum back housing
        • 3G – Black Plastic back housing
      • 16Gb – 3G or 3Gs
        • 3G – The words written on the back are a flat gray paint.
        • 3Gs – The words written on the back are a reflective, chrome-like paint.
      • 32Gb - 3Gs only
  2. Based on the model, select iPhone 3G Glass Repair or iPhone 3Gs Glass Repair
  3. Add the selected repair to your shopping cart.

iPhone 4 test images

On June 10, 2010, in Apple, iPhone Repair, Repair Parts, by Staff

The tests we’ve performed here at iFix have come under scrutiny from some dark and remote places on the interwebs, and we are here to say, check yo’self.

The tests performed we’re done with Apple iPhone 4 parts direct from the manufacturer. These images were taken after a series of well controlled tests performed by our stylish and intelligent staff. The drops were made from a distance of three and a half feet, or about the height of a six foot person dropping the phone from their pocket, or a drunk chick sliding one off the bar.

Here’s what’s up….

The main thing that is adding confusion is ‘how many drop tests were performed?’

There were two total tests complete.

First round broke on the 3rd drop, on concrete, flat. As stated.

Second test, as requested by readers, was another test to see if it would break on different surfaces(carpet/concrete) if it hit the corner, fumbled, etc. It broke on the 7th, hitting the top left corner, on concrete. The second drop test is not pictured yet.

For the second test…The glass survived all drops onto carpet, and survived six angled drops onto concrete, but when dropped flat down the glass shattered. The seventh angled drop onto concrete broke the glass as well, but your local retired NFL lineman can tell you all about cumulative damage.

The following pictures(of the glass from the first drop test) ought to silence some of the doubters. You will see that these are genuine Apple parts, note the laser etching on the digitizer cable, and front camera hole in the test glass. We’re too legit, you must acquit.  More images to come.

We here at iFixYouri did a little science experiment the other day with some of our newest iPhone parts. Many people have been talking that the new iPhone has strong glass, less prone to scratching, 30 times stronger than plastic, etc. Will the new glass prove to be ultra strong and never break?

I’m going to go with a no on this one. Why may you ask? They do say that it is 30 times stronger than plastic, and there is a video of it bending. Bending, yes. They did also state that the iPhone 3Gs Glass was stronger when that came out as well. It may bend more, but can it handle shock and sudden impact, that is the real question. That is what causes 95% of glass shattering. Not because you bent the glass in your pocket, not because you dropped it and it bent, but really because of sudden impact.

Land it flat on the ground, and it will smash. We have evidence. Before i show you the evidence, I am going to point out a design flaw that will bite them in the future. On the new iPhone, the glass basically sits on top of the aluminum frame. On the old iphone, it was recessed and protected by a chrome bezel.

We have a full iPhone 4(minus the circuit board), here at our shop and decided to do a little drop test. This drop was performed from 3.5 ft up. Mind you that these parts ARE original apple parts. Laser etched and all. The iPhone 4 did survive 2 drops, as expected, but on the 3rd drop there was a loud POP, and yet again, shattered glass.

We will continue to be the leader in iPhone Repair, and now iPhone 4 Repair.

More updates/pictures here!

Since this posting has got waves from many people, we’re going to clear a few things up here.

1) People are saying, “there’s no way you have iPhone 4 parts yet, the phone isn’t even out!”

  • The fact is, is that we’re a repair shop. Along with other major repair shops, we’re able to receive parts earlier than most. A simple google search will show that not only us, but other top players in the ‘iphone repair’ world, do in fact have these parts. We did put out a press release on June 3rd stating that we had the parts. This is no secret. A rather large competitor had them as earlier as May 19th. This is also widely spread on the internet

2) You hit it with a hammer

  • Uhmmm…no…we didn’t. That’s the most ridiculous thing we’ve heard.

3) Fake

  • We’re going to go with a no on this one as well. iPhone 4 Parts are available to all major repair shops…just seek and you shall see. Google ‘iphone repair’ and check some of the top competitor sites…they’re all ramped up and ready to service iPhone 4′s.

Here’s EXACTLY how it went down…if you want to read more into it, go for it. But honestly, and truthfully, this is the EXACT re-enactment of what happened:

It was a hot day on June 7th, 2010 and us here at the shop had just finished listening to the keynote by the great Steve Jobs. He had made a statement that the glass was stronger, more bendable, etc. After hearing that, one of our techs said “We should test a piece of the glass that we have in stock(iphone 4 glass that is).”

We proceeded down the hallway with our assembled iPhone 4(minus the internal circuit board), stepped out the front door and out to the side walk. Our tech held the phone(front facing the ground), and dropped it. Nothing(drop 1-we were very impressed). Drop 2, nothing. Drop 3, smash. He dropped it flat on the face and it popped. The all too familiar pop sound that some of us beloved iPhone users fear for.

As we sat talking about it, we decided to show our results on our blog, so that our readers could see what we had found. Not expecting it to take wind the way it did.

That is all…no ulterior motive…just to show our readers what had happened. That is it.

Please do yourselves a favor and check some competitor sites and you will see that the iPhone 4 parts aren’t as rare and elusive as you may think. There are numerous places out there with iPhone 4 parts already.
