According to IHS, the total number of Android phones shipped globally will exceed the 1 billion mark by 2013. The first Android-run smartphone was first shipped in 2008 and almost five years later, the number of shipments is expected to surpass the 1 billion mark.
Daniel Gleeson said that Android smartphones have taken the world by surprise. “We expect the Android smartphones to become the first to reach the milestone in its lifetime,” he said.
Android operating system is owned by Google and they make the software available to third party smartphones brands free of charge.
Android Smartphones Dominates the Market
Google chairman Eric Schmidt confirmed the news in a recent interview. He said that there are currently over 500 million Android phones worldwide. He also said that there are about 1.3 million devices being activated each day. “If the trend continues, we will hit the 1 billion mark by next year,” he said. Mr. Schmidt also said Android had won the battle with Apple’s iOS.
Android is King in Asia
A recent report by Dr. Madanmohan Rao claims that the recent success of South Korean mobile firm Samsung can be attributed to the Android operating system. Thanks to Android, Samsung is now the leading mobile company in south East Asia. As a matter of fact, half of all the smartphones sales in South East Asia are Samsung phones.
The Android fever has also swept Philippines and other Asian countries. A large number of people prefer Android phones as opposed to other phones. Globe Telecom, the leading telecommunications company in the Philippines, recently launched the Samsung Galaxy Note II. The phone has a 1.6 GHz quad-core processor, 5.5 inch HD super AMOLED, 3100mAH battery and many more features. It goes without saying that the phone is powered by the Android operating system.
The sad thing about people who buy Android smartphones is that most of them damage their phones within the first 6 months of purchase. Many people think that once their smartphone is damaged, it cannot be fixed. Contrary to common belief, damaged smartphones can easily be repaired. We at iFixYouri specialize in repairing damaged smartphones.
We carry our iPhones wherever we go: to the office, the parks, the beach, and so on. They can get exposed to the elements if we are not careful and it only takes a few moments of inattention for undesirable things to occur. Sometimes mobile devices can be immersed in water even inside the house.
The Most Frequent Causes of iPhone Water Damage
When people swim in a pool, their phones are often placed near the edge of the pool for quick access. This habit makes phones vulnerable to being accidentally dropped in the water.
Sudden showers can leave us drenched and if we are carrying a phone, there is a good chance it will not be dry either. Even when we place it inside a bag or a protective casing, water has an uncanny ability to seep through, anyway.
We often forget to take stuff like keys, cash, and yes, phones out of our pockets. When our clothes hit the washer, an odd noise will let us know that something is not quite right.
We grow so attached to our phones that they often accompany us to the bathroom, just in case we get an important message or call. It could get splashed with water or succumb to moisture without us knowing until it is too late. Dropping a phone in a toilet or urinal is quite common, especially since many people use their phone while using the facilities.
It’s not recommended to lend your expensive electronic devices to a baby as a toy, as it’s not safe for the baby as much as they’re not safe for the phone. Using the phone as a chew toy will certainly transfer some liquid into the device, but that may be the least of your problems when it comes to the damage a baby can cause.

iPhone water damage is one of the most common iPhone repair types we see. It is also one of the most deadly to iPhones if you allow corrosion. As the video shows, it is imperative to remove the iPhone out of the water ASAP. Once the iPhone is out of the water, you want to make sure it is powered off.
If you get a white pinwheel on the screen and it won’t turn of, you hold down the power button and home button until it turns off. In the video we failed to record it powering back on after we powered it off. We simply repeated the ‘power off process’ and moved on to the next important step; remove the SIM card.
Once the SIM card is removed you want to put the iPhone in an uncooked bag of rice. Tighten the bag so all extra air is gone and seal it.
If you follow the above above steps and mail the water damaged iPhone we can fix it as good as new. If you decide you want to see if it works for yourself, wait 48 to 76 hours after the water exposure and then try it out. If you find at that time it is not functioning properly as a result of the iPhone water damage put back in the rice and mail to us.
iPhone Water Damage Video
We receive iPhone 4 repair inquiries all of the time and want to start sharing our responses to everyone. We had a lady from the Las Angeles/Santa Barbara/Tulare county area email to ask us:
I just bought and iPhone 4 and soon after spilled a glass of water on it. I dried it off immediately and it worked soon after. But now this morning it won’t turn on. Can you fix it?
Yes, we can fix that. While iPhone 4 water damage can be very bad, we can typically repair over 90% the phones. The big issue is corrosion but there are ways to avoid it. When your iPhone 4 gets wet you should take the back casing off. Then take the battery and SIM card out. Put it in a bag of rise. Or you can blow with hair dryer (on low). Or you can just let it sit with noted parts removed.
Once it is completely dry you mail it to use. We offer diagnostics service if you prefer that in the iPhone 4 repair process. You can see all the needed shipping information during the checkout process. It is very simple and shipping is free. A common problem when people spill water on their iPhone is powering it on or leaving it on. When a phone is not completely submerged people get a false sense of security. Until your iPhone 4 is completely dry you don’t power it on.
This email came from the area in California that encompasses the cities of Bakersfield, Palmdale, Santa Clarita and Lancaster all of which are near Los Angeles/Santa Barbara/Tulare County. The beauty of the mail-in service is we can help no matter where you live. Let us know if you have any further questions.
Here’s the scenario….
Beautiful day out, sun is shining, the weather is great. Friends and family are over bbq’n by the pool. You decide to join the fun and jump in the pool when you realize, ahhhh, my iPhone is in my pocket! You immediately jump out at the speed of lightning and panic!
WHAT DO YOU DO?!
We’re going to give you a little break-down here of EXACTLY what you should do. If you ever needed to repair a water damaged iphone, this is hands down the most successful way to do so.
1) If the phone is ON, TURN IT OFF! No questions asked. Just do it. Water and electronics have never been too fond of each other, and the way it seems now, they never will be.
2) DO NOT TURN IT ON!
3) Now that we’ve gotten those two major steps out of the way, we can move forward. Remove any case that you may have on it and remove the SIM card.
4) Dry it with a towel, shake out excess water, don’t kill yourself over shaking it, just do your best and don’t spend hours doing it.
5) Place phone in a bag of dry rice immediately after. If you have silica packs, those work wonders and work WAY better than rice.
6) Once you’ve got that part out of the way, log onto our website and select our iPhone 3G Water Damage Repair or iPhone 3Gs Water Damage Repair.
You may be saying, well, if i put the iphone in a bag of rice, and it sucked up all the water, what is the point of sending it in for water damage repair?
We’ll go ahead and break that down for you so you get a good understanding of what is going on.
When a water inside an iphone sits, corrosion builds up, quick. We have seen motherboards covered in corrosion in less than 24 hours. It all depends on what type of water it fell into, salt water, pool water, fresh water, liqour, etc.
Our process cleans any kind of corrosion or oils that may have built up on the circuit board after it was introduced to water. If you don’t go through with a proper fix for water damage, your phone may work after drying out, but you may lose features one by one, as time goes by. Corrosion grows a bit like rust, where it spreads, sometimes quickly, and sometimes slowly.
The iPhone has 4 water damage indicators.
- Down inside the headphone jack
- Inside the dock connector(where you plug your phone in)
- 2 on the motherboard/logic board
When water makes contact with any of these sensors, they turn red.
If you bring a water damaged phone into Apple, they will gladly exchange it for you…for the price of $199. With the exchange, you lose your data, and they give you a refurbished replacement iPhone, not even a new one.
Keep in mind though that time is of the essence in fixing water damage. Remember…
- Turn it OFF
- Place it in a bag of rice/silica packs
- Select the iPhone 3G Water damage repair or iPhone 3Gs water damage repair
- We’ll receive it, fix it, and ship it back!
We are able to revive iPhones from water damage an astonishing 90% of the time. Included in the water damage repair process is the replacement of any parts that may have been damaged in the spill.
Recently we performed an iPhone 4 screen test, where it was proven that the glass for the new iPhone is still very much breakable. Even more troubling is that the iPhones have glass on both sides and instead of the glass sitting behind the chrome bezel frame, it sits on top.
The bottom line is that regardless of the upgraded features and style, the iPhone screen repair service is more valuable than ever. It won’t scratch easily at all but the screen is still at risk. Keeping that in mind it’s time to keep tabs on the other big problem area for iPhone owners: iPhone water damage.
We don’t have to run any tests to tell you that the new iPhone can still break if dropped in the toilet, swimming pool or filled beer mug because we don’t need to break a new iPhone to prove the obvious. All of the time we are asked, “My iPhone got wet, what do I do?”
Digging deeper, it has been revealed that many people with broken iPhones have been told their warranty is void at Apple stores because their water sensors have bee tripped, according to Watchdog. Apparently sweat and other moisture is turning this tablet indicators red. But when you open up the iPhone and really examine it, it is obviously a dry phone.
Apple is playing with fire with practices like this, with its loyal customer base that just now might be noticing there are other phone options. Your iPhone could be void of warranty right now and you don’t even know it! If you have an iPhone wrongly void of warranty let us know.
DIY Options if you iPhone actually does get wet
The first thing to remember to do is CONTACT US ASAP. The next thing to remember is to not hit any buttons (leave phone off).
There are many DIY options to consider
When you introduce water into electronics, a big problem that ends up occuring is corrosion. Sometimes the onset of corrosion is within 24 hours, sometimes it takes days, even weeks. But corrosion is a circuit board’s biggest enemy. If you dry it out, and it works, that’s great! But over time, features may begin to fail. This is due to growth of corrosion and oils left on the board once the water is all gone.
A ‘cheap’ solution goes like this:
- Take out of case and remove SIM card
- Shake out any extra water
- Use a blow dryer on low for a few minutes to get rid of excess water
- Place iPhone in rice bag, completely covered
- Leave in rice bag for a few days, blow drying it daily as needed
- At this point it should be dry and you can try to power it on.
The Right Solution
The iFixyouri Solution is the right one to go with. We use state-of-the-art equipment and tools that are more advanced that many competitors.
