The 13 shrank the notch and moved the front camera and earpiece, which repacked the top of the phone. Everything up there sits closer together than it did on the 12.
The practical effect is that display work needs more care around the sensor array. Batteries and charging ports are straightforward. The 13 also still uses the older chassis design, so back glass is a bigger job on this model than on the 14 that followed it.
