Description
Force Touch trackpads do not physically move. The click you feel is the Taptic Engine simulating one, which means a trackpad that has stopped clicking is usually electrical rather than mechanical, and is often fixable.
The most common cause we see is not the trackpad at all. It is a swelling battery sitting directly beneath it, pushing up and jamming the assembly. If your click has gone stiff or dead, that is the first thing we check, because replacing the trackpad on a swollen battery just breaks the new one.
Other symptoms worth bringing in: cursor jumping while typing, multi-touch gestures dropping out, or a corner that reads presses but the rest of the surface does not.
