Description
Crackling, rattling or silent speakers on the MacBook Air 13-inch M2 usually mean a blown speaker from high volume, or damage after a spill. The MacBook Air 13-inch M2 (A2681, 2022) is the first Air with the flat-edge design, a notch in the display and MagSafe 3 charging.
About the MacBook Air 13-inch M2 (A2681)
It is fanless, so it runs silent but relies on the case to shed heat. Its speakers sit under the top case near the hinge, and the sound comes out through the gap between the case and the display. Most MacBook Air 13-inch M2 machines are now past Apple's warranty and AppleCare, which is where an independent repair saves the most.

Common questions
Is it software or hardware?
Try headphones. If they sound fine but the speakers do not, it is hardware.

Only the side that has failed, unless both have.
