Description
The MacBook Pro 16-inch M1 Pro/Max (A2485, 2021) is the 2021 redesign with a mini-LED XDR display, MagSafe 3, HDMI and an SD slot. If one side sounds distorted or dead, or audio buzzes at higher volume, the speaker on that side needs replacing.
About the MacBook Pro 16-inch M1 Pro/Max (A2485)
It is fan-cooled, and a blocked fan or vent is worth checking whenever it runs hot. Its speakers sit either side of the keyboard, under the grilles in the top case. Most MacBook Pro 16-inch M1 Pro/Max machines are now past Apple's warranty and AppleCare, which is where an independent repair saves the most.

Common questions
Is it software or hardware?
Try headphones. If they sound fine but the speakers do not, it is hardware.
Do you replace both sides?
Only the side that has failed, unless both have.
How do I confirm I have the MacBook Pro 16-inch M1 Pro/Max?
Click the Apple menu > About This Mac. It lists the screen size and year, and the chip, which should read Apple M1 Pro or M1 Max. The model number printed on the bottom case is A2485.
