Description

A cracked, blacked-out or striped screen on the MacBook Pro 13-inch M1/M2 is a complete display assembly replacement. Apple builds the panel, glass, hinge and display cables into one sealed lid, so the broken glass cannot be swapped on its own. The MacBook Pro 13-inch M1/M2 (A2338, 2020–2022) is the last MacBook Pro with the Touch Bar, sold with the M1 in 2020 and the M2 in 2022.

About the MacBook Pro 13-inch M1/M2 (A2338)

It uses a 13.3-inch Retina LCD display. Most MacBook Pro 13-inch M1/M2 machines are now past Apple's warranty and AppleCare, which is where an independent repair saves the most.

Signs you need this repair

  • Backlight on but no image
  • Display only works at certain lid angles
  • Cracked glass or ink-like black patches
  • Vertical or horizontal lines

How we replace it

We disconnect the battery, release the hinge brackets and fit a new display assembly, then check the lid sits evenly and closes flush. If the fault only appears at some lid angles, we test the display cable first, because that can be the real cause. Final checks cover dead pixels, uniformity, the camera and sleep on close.

Warranty

Screen and glass repairs carry our 1-year parts and labor warranty. Accidental damage is the one thing it does not cover.

Common questions

Can you replace just the glass on a MacBook Pro 13" M1/M2?

No. On the MacBook Pro 13" M1/M2, as on every Retina and Apple silicon MacBook, the glass is laminated to the panel, so the complete display assembly is the correct repair.

Will True Tone and the camera still work?

Yes. The camera and ambient light sensor come with the new lid and we test both before it goes back.

How do I confirm I have the MacBook Pro 13-inch M1/M2?

Click the Apple menu > About This Mac. It lists the screen size and year, and the chip, which should read Apple M1 or M2. The model number printed on the bottom case is A2338.
